(Player Spotlight) - Purnell Jones #80 - Receiver

I was blessed to share the gridiron with Purnell for two seasons. He was a member of our 1982 undefeated and unscored-upon 9-0 squad and the 1984 12-0 championship team. At Vanden Purnell saw a perfect 21-0 record. He was a receiver with trustworthy hands and great speed. He could take a hard hit or deliver a ruthless stick. Purnell was friendly and quiet, yet that didn't dictate his play on the gridiron. He was aggressive. Purnell was another of the guys who kept the team balanced from the emotional players like myself. He was a Viking through and through and always ready to take on any task required of him on the field. Purnell gave his all for the team in 1984. Thank you for the memories, Purnell. You took names.
